The organization is designed to improve the health of the US by conducting and supporting research in the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and cure of human diseases, among others. There are huge amounts of healthcare data available that is being underutilised due to the need of preserving patient's personal data.

Sherpa.ai's privacy-enhancing federated learning solution allowed the NIH to train their predictive algorithm for rare diseases with data from different hospitals without sharing any patient personal data. Due to the FL approach used by Sherpa.ai, data never leaves the server and therefore privacy is not compromised.
